History[]
On March 22, 2024, Eclipsed Sounds, LLC redesigned its website. A new "upcoming genre-focused vocal line" provisionally dubbed "Eclipsed Sounds Phase 2" was added to the bottom of the homepage; while the Starry Court (SOLARIA, ASTERIAN, SAROS, and a then-unnamed Alto vocal that months later would adopt the name NYL) was described as a "lineup of genre-flexible vocalists", Phase 2 was said to "provide voices designed to suit single genres, with a lineup based on our current backlog of user requests", with no further information about any specific vocal to be grouped there.[1]
2025[]
On January 19, 2025, Eclipsed Sounds published a video on YouTube announcing that Phase 2 would be named "Tone Chroma", with more information to be provided later through a new webpage that was opened for it.[2] This new webpage, apart from embedding the YouTube video above, invited viewers to visit this year's NAMM Show,[3] which was to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in southern California (United States) from January 21 to 25, with exhibits to be on display from the 23rd to the 25th. NAMM 2025's listing for Eclipsed Sounds stated that the company would reveal new vocal products alongside their existing ones.[4]
On January 21, a teaser demo titled "Phase 2 - TONE CHROMA : R-01" was published by ES on YouTube, featuring a masculine vocal known only by the codename "R-01", singing a gritty rock song and ending it with a scream typical of heavy metal.[5] On January 23, the first day of NAMM 2025's live exhibits, ES published a follow-up teaser video; there, R-01's name was revealed to be "HXVOC", and a red-colored silhouette was also unveiled, as well as his logo. ES invited people to listen to his voice during NAMM 2025.[6] As for whether his voice database would release for Synthesizer V Studio or exclusively for the upcoming Synthesizer V Studio 2 (also being showcased during NAMM 2025), Joey, a "video essayist, vsynth enthusiast, singer & lyricist"[7] who had hands-on experience with testing the newer in-development version of Dreamtonics Co., Ltd.'s singing-synthesis software at the event, could neither confirm nor deny, only limiting themself to stating that both HXVOC and GALENAIA (another newly-revealed Tone Chroma voice database) were tested on the newer SVS2 engine[8][9] and that HXVOC had been in development for several years.[10] Joey also added that he had an assortment of unnamed vocal modes, not all of which they had yet listened to;[11] he was also said to sound "incredibly guttural" in spite of no apparent presence of a "growl parameter" on SVS2 (similar to the one introduced on VOCALOID4).[12]
On February 17, Eclipsed Sounds formally declared that both HXVOC and GALENAIA would be releasing for the newer SVS2 engine, with further details to be published later.[13][14]
On February 21, HXVOC's first full demo song was published; on it, his vocal modes were announced, his full artwork was revealed (courtesy of Philippine illustrator OzumiiWizard), and his voice provider was revealed to be American rock singer Seann Nicols.[15] It was also announced that pre-orders for HXVOC would open February 22, with a release date set for March 27.[16]
