Nekomura Iroha (猫村いろは) is an upcoming Japanese vocal announced to be developed and distributed by AH-Software Co. Ltd. in collaboration with SANRIO and the Hello Kitty to Issho! Project. On May 14, 2025, she was announced to be releasing as an AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio 2 in celebration of her 15th Anniversary as a VOCALOID.[3] She was initially released as a Japanese VOCALOID2 voicebank in October 2010, also developed and distributed by AH-Software Co. Ltd., and was later updated to the VOCALOID4 engine in June 2015.[4]

Her voice provider was initially unrevealed,[5] but was eventually confirmed to be utaite and Showa-style singer Kyounosuke Yoshitate on June 18, 2015.[6] Kyounosuke Yoshitate announced his return as the voice provider for Iroha's Synthesizer V Studio 2 voice database expressing his excitement about looking forward to "meeting the new Iroha-chan".[7]

Official profile[]

For more information about Nekomura Iroha's Kittyler origins, see VOCALOID Wiki "How Nekomura Iroha became a Platinum Kitty".

Iroha is canonically a "Kittyler": someone who loves the Sanrio character Hello Kitty. She joined the Hello Kitty to Issho! Project in early August 2010.[8][9] According to her official profile on the Hello Kitty to Issho! page, she is interested in Hello Kitty and wants to become a "Platinum Kitty".[10] A story about how she became a Kittyler was included.

Etymology[]

"Iroha" is the old Japanese variant of "ABC" (as seen in the Japanese iroha poem) and "I, Ro, Ha" means "A(La), B(Si), C(Do)" of seven-note scale.[11] "Nekomura", her surname, means "Cat Village".

Appearance[]

Nekomura Iroha's former illustrations for her VOCALOID2 and VOCALOID4 voicebanks were illustrated by okama, a Japanese manga artist and illustrator.[12] It is currently unconfirmed if okama will be returning as the official illustrator for her Synthesizer V Studio 2 illustration, though is presumed based upon prior illustration work.

History[]

Pre-Synthesizer V[]

Recording for Nekomura Iroha's VOCALOID2 voicebank occurred before the licensing of the character had been finalized. The vocal was not originally made for Iroha as a result, with it being approved by Sanrio after the licensing deals were finalized. Planning of the first three AH-Software Co. Ltd. vocals began in 2007.

Iroha was later introduced in 2009 for the Hello Kitty to Issho! Project. In May 2010, Iroha was first featured as a VOCALOID in DTM Magazine with only a concept sketch of her design.

In October 2010, Iroha was released for VOCALOID2 with two demo songs, her appearance, and her name. Her voice provider was initially unknown. However, it was said that the voice provider was a professional singer who passed the audition test set by AH-Software.[13]

She was originally designed by Sanrio for Comiket (Comic Market) in 2009.[5] Iroha was released as a part of a promotional tie-in with a VOCALOID x Hello Kitty promotion.

A CD was released with two songs ("Tsubasa" and "ABBEY FLY") featuring her along with VSQ files. She owes much of her early use to being supplied as a trial version. The offer for the free trial ended on September 30, 2010.[14]

FuRyu produced a set of figurines based on Iroha and Lily that were released as prizes for UFO catchers. As prize figures, they were not intended for commercial sale and limited their availability for purchase outside of the UFO machines.

Until late May 2011, no AH-Software VOCALOIDs could be used for works sold via KARENT. However, Iroha remained under ban until late January 2012 due to AH-Software's joint ownership of her with Sanrio.

2025[]

On May 14, 2025, AH-Software announced that they would be developing an AI voice database for Iroha in celebration of her 15th Anniversary, to be released for the Synthesizer V Studio 2 engine.[3]

Voice Libraries[]

Nekomura Iroha - Natural
The original Iroha vocal is meant to represent a lower toned female and has powerful tones representing a more child-like or teenage girl. It is tomboyish and was a tie-in promotional with Sanrio co., Ltd.
Nekomura Iroha - Soft
A more feminine sounding vocal compared to the original "Natural" voice, it has a softer tone and looser pronounications for more expression. In comparison to Iroha "Natural" as well, it is an adult and not a child.
