The long anticipation is about to be revealed, make an appointment for the video release, and feel the deep roar and surging power from the depths of the soul together.
—Introduction prior to debut[1]

Ninezero is an English vocal developed and distributed by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd., and released as an AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio in February 2023.

His voice was provided by NINEZERO, an Australian rock and metal singer, songwriter, and musician.[2]

Concept[]

Like previous Dreamtonics vocals before him, Ninezero was intended to be treated as an official voice database or an indispensable "reference-level" type of singing voice, representing Dreamtonics's brand quality.

Ninezero was designed for hard rock and heavy metal music with a powerful sound that stands out like his voice provider. He has deep growls, soaring high tones, and emotional breathy releases.

Etymology[]

"Ninezero" shares his voice provider's artist name. His name is rendered in kana as "ナインゼロ".

Appearance[]

Like previous Dreamtonics vocals, rather than having an official human-like avatar, Ninezero is represented by an abstract symbol, the number "9" and the letter "Z", with the "9" in place for "Nine" and the "Z" drawn from the first letter of "zero". Unlike past vocals, this was the first time a Dreamtonics vocalist featured a number rather than a single or combination of letters. The number and letter are white or light gray in color with hints of dark gray and rustic red. The "9" is rectangular in shape and the "Z" is shorter than the "9", being more of a box-shape rather than pointed. Characterization is left to the song producers themselves rather than the product, so Ninezero is open to any form of visual interpretation, allowing the producer to decide what they would like him to look like.

Marketing[]

Like previous Dreamtonics vocals, Ninezero was treated as an official or standard vocal for the engine, where he could potentially be found in demonstrations of Synthesizer V Studio and its AI capabilities. This also meant that he would be among the first vocals to be equipped with the latest engine updates.

Ninezero is one of the few Dreamtonics vocals with a known voice provider. He was marketed to be based on the voice and style of the Australian artist NINEZERO, and like the voice provider, the voice database was specialized for rock and metal. He was also the first Dreamtonics vocal to receive a specially recorded Vocal Phrases Pack (also called "pitagoe" by AH-Software Co. Ltd.), including over 200 short and expressive phrases.

On March 9, 2023, Dreamtonics announced that Ninezero had his own artist association profile on NetEase Music. Creators can use the profile to add to their published songs, providing a more unified retrieval method and a higher exposure rate for the works. Dreamtonics would provide assistance services to creators at no charge and would not obtain any income belonging to the artist when associating their works with the singer profiles. Based on NetEase Music's policies, creators needed to provide relevant proof of purchase to NetEase Music's customer service in order to associate a virtual singer with their works, thus, screenshots of receipts would need to be prepared in advance. NetEase Music's customer service would then confirm the request and forward it to Dreamtonics, who would approve the requests within five business days of receiving them.[3]

On March 17, NINEZERO created his own YouTube playlist for works featuring Ninezero.[4]

From April 13 to April 15, Eclipsed Sounds, LLC had a booth at the NAMM Show where people could try out their vocalists as well as Dreamtonics's Ninezero and Natalie.[5]

Reputation[]

Ninezero's character status
Reaction

On December 24, 2022, Ninezero made his debut as an unnamed upcoming English vocalist who specialized in rock and heavy metal. Initial reactions to his debut were mostly positive especially as his specialty in the rock and metal genres was considered to be a needed addition to English vocals. Fans waited in anticipation for further news.

As a vocalist without an official character, this allowed producers and fans to create their own for Ninezero, resulting in a variety of designs.

Impact
As a Dreamtonics product to demonstrate the capabilities of Synthesizer V Studio (specifically Synthesizer V AI), Ninezero was considered to be one of the default or reference vocals used for tech demos, allowing for producers to compare and understand the differences per update. He had a professional feel and made for a good starting AI voice database, which was especially praised for sounding realistic and helped gauge interest in this type of voice database for Synthesizer V as a whole. Dreamtonics also acknowledged that Ninezero was a highly anticipated English AI singing database.[6][1]

Achievements
  • First known Australian-accented Synthesizer V voice database.
