Synthesizer V Studio 2

Synthesizer V Studio 2 is the third generation of the Synthesizer V vocal synthesis engine, and successor to the Synthesizer V Studio vocal synthesis engine developed by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd.. The software was announced in December 2024 alongside updates for voice databases Natalie, Sheena, and Felicia, and was released in March 2025.

Included with the purchase of Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, users are eligible to pick from one of three complimentary starting voice databases including: Mai 2 (a feminine Japanese-capable voice database and the upgraded version of Mai), Liam (an English-capable voice database), and Mo Xu (a Mandarin Chinese-capable voice database).

History[]

The software was announced to be in production on December 24, 2024 via a tweet from the official Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. Twitter account and was simultaneously announced to be unveiled during the upcoming 2025 NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center, to be held on January 23 - 25.[1][2] Updates for previous Dreamtonics voice databases were simultaneously announced including: Natalie 2, Sheena 2, and Felicia 2.

A prematurely-published Amazon Japan listing (that was later taken down) showed that Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro was set to release on March 21, 2025.[3]

On February 13, pre-orders for Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, as well as for various Synthesizer V 2 AI voice databases, opened at the Dreamtonics International Store and at AH-Software Co. Ltd.'s AHS Store, with release date confirmed to be set for March 21[4][5] as per the Amazon Japan listing (which was reinstated the day after). On the Dreamtonics Store, SVS2 Pro was offered (in digital-download format only) as a standalone editor and as a bundle with any SV2 AI voice database of the user's choice; a deeply-discounted upgrade version was also offered for a limited time to registered owners of the outgoing Synthesizer V Studio Pro editor (which was set to be discontinued from sales as soon as the new version released). On the AHS Store, both physical and digital editions of the SVS2 Pro editor were offered, as well as a physical-only Starter Pack which, as was the case for the outgoing SVS Pro Starter Pack (also set to be retired on March 21), would include a coupon to be redeemed (upon release) for any digital voice database from among an approved list provided by AH-Software (which included not just Synthesizer V 2 AI vocals but also Synthesizer V Standard and Synthesizer V AI vocals designed originally for the old SVS Pro editor).

On January 25, 2025, Dreamtonics published a video titled "Synthesizer V Studio 2: Exclusive Preview" demonstrating a work in progress version of the software. The following is a non-exhaustive list of features that were shown in that video:

  • Sing and Rap modes in the Notes panel (manual pitch mode present in Synthesizer V Studio 1 is not present)[6]
  • Manually drawing pitch bends which influence pitch generation and AI retakes[7]

Release Version[]

On February 13, 2025, Dreamtonics published a press release detailing all of the new features that Synthesizer V Studio 2 offers.[8]

Enhanced Voice Quality and Dynamics[]

The updated models in Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro more accurately replicate human-like voice dynamics, resulting in a greater sense of presence with finer details. This improvement is achieved without compromising on pronunciation and pitch accuracy. Additionally, the preserved dynamics enable AI Retakes to generate more diverse options, giving users more choices to achieve their desired pattern.

Massive Optimizations[]

Thanks to improved algorithm design and enhanced multi-threading support, Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro renders up to 300% faster than its predecessor. This significant speed boost is achieved without requiring a dedicated GPU or acceleration hardware, allowing for seamless offline use.

Phoneme Timing Panel[]

The new Phoneme Timing panel allows for direct resizing and adjustment of phoneme intensity within a note. For certain consonants, the panel offers precise control beyond phoneme-level, enabling detailed adjustments to timing and prominence of plosive onsets.

Enhanced Vocal Modes[]

Upgraded Synthesizer V voices now feature more distinct Vocal Modes, with the ability to assign separate modes to pitch, timbre, and pronunciation. This allows users to create nuanced singing styles by combining different modes, such as pairing a “powerful” pitch with a “belting” timbre and a “soft” pronunciation. By decoupling these elements, users can craft significantly more realistic, emotionally expressive vocals that perfectly suit the tone and style of their music.

Expression Pad and Timing AI Retakes[]

AI Retakes is now integrated into the Notes panel, allowing for single-click retakes of phoneme timing in addition to existing functionality. The Expression Pad offers a convenient way to modulate pitch generation behavior.

Smart Pitch Controls[]

The new Smart Pitch Controls system enables users to quickly and intuitively shape pitch expressions with precision. By inputting key locations for desired pitch changes, the system generates natural-sounding curves that accurately reflect the user’s intentions in near real-time. This intuitive tool allows regular users to achieve nuanced pitch expressions with minimal editing, while also empowering power users to create complex, realistic singing styles.

Mouth Opening Parameter[]

A new parameter, the first of its kind, has been added to upgraded voices: Mouth Opening, which fundamentally alters vowel pronunciation. This intuitive control allows users to accentuate specific words, or subtly modify the way a phrase begins or ends, adding depth and expressiveness to their synthesized vocals.

Korean Support[]

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro introduces support for Korean as a new voice synthesis language. Additionally, Korean will be available as a cross-lingual synthesis language option for all upgraded voices.

Voice Compatibility[]

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro will be compatible with version 1 voices through compatibility updates for each of the voices, scheduled for release on March 21, 2025. To ensure seamless access to these updates, users will need to create a dedicated Dreamtonics account and register their existing products.

Voice Compatibility Table[]

Compatibility updates do not support some of the new features introduced in version 2. For detailed information on feature compatibility, refer to the table below:

  • The Standard (non-AI) version of Saki from version 1 will receive an update with re-trained models, effectively converting it into an AI-based voice (similar to the concept of Synthesizer V Plus voice databases). The updated voice will have the same specifications as the compatibility updates for other version 1 voices. Plans for compatibility updates for non-Dreamtonics voices will be announced separately by Dreamtonics partners.

Updates[]

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.0 - March 21, 2025 (build 131072)[note 5]

Original version of Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro released to the public.

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.1 Update - March 21, 2025 at 19:00 JST (build 131073)[10]

This program update was issued by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. to address crashes as well as issues related to pitch control curves.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed issue where Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro crashed when opening or importing a project originally created in Synthesizer V Studio version 1, or when opening/importing MIDI files containing certain lyrics. This bug affected projects containing long silences and projects containing tracks/groups that start with a legato note.
  • Fixed a bug with the pitch curve mode that caused very long curves spanning across multiple notes to be partially ignored by the engine. This bug manifested when importing a project from version 1 into Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, switching to the pitch curves mode, and drawing some curves on top of the notes; the final pitch curves were not following the drawn curves but rather appearing with a certain offset added to user inputs.
Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.2 Update - March 22, 2025 (build 131074)[11]

This second program update was issued by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. to cover a few other cases of crashes, OS version incompatibility issues and rectifying some irregular pitch control behaviors.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed compatibility issues with earlier builds of Windows 10.
  • Fixed compatibility issues with macOS Big Sur.
  • Fixed crashes when rendering certain positions in a project containing legatos and silences.
  • Fixed crashes when loading a voice on a track that contains lyrics with invalid UTF-8 bytes.
  • Fixed broken key shift parameter.
  • Fixed a mispronounced word in the Chinese pronunciation dictionary.
  • Fixed "Trace Pitch Into Control Points" not responding to the Pitch Deviation parameter.
  • Fixed issues with drawing pitch curves with very fast strokes, causing overlaps with curves already drawn.
  • Fixed pitch control points causing off-key pitch in groups with very high/low pitched notes.
Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.3 Alpha Update - March 25, 2025 (alpha build 250325c)[12]

The Dreamtonics Team invited "users affected by the following additional in-progress items to try out an alpha build which contains experimental changes for fixing these issues". This build would be "rolled out as the next 2.0.3 update as soon as we confirm the fix for the items" below.

Bug Fixes:

  • "We could not replicate the compatibility issues with Ableton" (see details in the bottom of this page), but by comparing reports from multiple affected users we believe it belongs to a more general issue of a malfunctioning Direct2D renderer engine causing severe graphical performance regression. Direct2D was disabled by default in build 250325c."
  • "We have identified the cause and attempted another fix for crashes during voice installation for macOS High Sierra (10.13), Mojave (10.14) and Catalina (10.15) running on Intel processors."
  • "We have identified and fixed an bug in the DNNI backend causing crashes on Sandy Bridge (2nd gen Intel i-series), Ivy Bridge (3rd gen Intel i-series) and AMD Bulldozer (FX-?1??) processors."
  • "We have identified bugs with the WebView2 system component causing the settings panel, Product Manager, and onboarding screen to appear as blank pages/invisible on some Windows systems. We have experimented with workarounds that should bypass the bugs."
  • "We have identified issues with region detection & server selection that potentially have caused login failures from China and nearby regions. Server-side mitigation has already been implemented that should alleviate the problem for the current stable version (2.0.2); this alpha build completes the fix from the client side."
Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.3 Update - March 26, 2025 (build 131075)[13]

This third program update was issued by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. to cover lag issues involving some Windows DAWs, loading issues with the Product Manager and settings panel embedded inside the software, and login issues involving users located in or near China (all of them discussed in the alpha build above).

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue of slow GUI response on certain DAWs on Windows. This bug, where Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro did not respond to playback commands from Ableton Live, Cubase, or REAPER (causing the GUI to appear laggy or even the audio to stutter in some extreme cases), affected Windows systems equipped with NVIDIA GPUs, and the Team hypothesized that it was caused by a new Direct2D GUI renderer, which for this update has been disabled, switching the program back to the software renderer by default.
  • Partially fixed an issue where the Product Manager, Onboarding Screen, and Settings Panel did not load on Windows (resulting in a blank screen with no actual content loaded to be shown to users). This could be due to either a missing WebView2 Runtime or the embedded web browser having corrupted cache. The Team recommended affected users to install WebView2 Runtime ("Evergreen Bootstrapper") from Microsoft, then remove the folder "C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\Dreamtonics\Synthesizer V Studio 2\webview2" and restart Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro (or, alternatively, force the embedded browser to clean its cache and reload by pressing Ctrl + F5).
  • Fixed a client-side issue that prevented users located in or near China from logging into their accounts.
Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.0.4 Update - March 26, 2025 at 23:30 JST (build 131076)[13]

This fourth program update was issued by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. to cover wider cases of platform-specific crashes, performance degradation on specific hardware, and loading issues with the Product Manager and settings panel embedded inside the software.

Feature Enhancements:

  • Added new behaviors for syncing smart pitch controls with note operations:
    • Copy/paste pitch control points/curves along with intersecting notes.
    • Delete pitch control points/curves when the note(s) that wholly contain the points/curves is deleted.

Behavior Changes:

  • Forbid the splitting of groups near the edges to prevent the creation of zero-length groups.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed crashes on some projects containing a version 1 voice.
  • Fixed performance degradation on certain Windows systems with a discrete GPU.
  • Fixed crashes when loading a voice on Intel Macs running macOS Catalina (10.15), Mojave (10.14) and High Sierra (10.13).
  • Fixed crashes during rendering on Intel Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge and AMD Bulldozer CPUs.
  • Fixed the disappearance or failure to load settings panel, Product Manager and/or welcome screen.
  • Fixed crashes when rendering the ending part of a group in certain projects.
  • Fixed lost key shift and other group-level parameters when importing a version 1 project.
  • Fixed a bug during server area selection causing connection issues in China and nearby regions.
  • Fixed a bug causing pitch control points and curves to be repeated for each syllable in a multi-syllable note.
  • Fixed crashes when dragging notes with a very short pitch curve placed on its top.
  • Fixed accidental quitting of the program when trying to undo a change on a new project.

NOTE: Initially, update 2.0.3 was erroneously delivered as the new 2.0.4 update. This was corrected a few minutes later.[note 6]

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.1.2b2 Beta Update - September 26, 2025 (beta build)[24]

The Dreamtonics Team is excited to share the second beta (2.1.2b2) for the upcoming 2.1.2 update to Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro.

  • Redesigned voice selector

    Redesigned voice selector

This update introduces a redesigned voice selector aimed at improving the ease of managing an extensive collection of voice databases. Users will find it simpler to navigate voices through the use of visual icons, tags, and a discovery mode for exploring new voices not yet in the user's account.
  • In addition to this new feature, this beta addresses several critical audio rendering issues that were causing artifacts with certain parameter settings. Improvements have also been made to scripting features and other bugs identified in the previous beta.
  • In this beta, the Team is also requesting feedback from users regarding the new voice selector design, in order to refine the design in the final release. The Team is centering such feedback on two specific questions:
    • Separation of Installed vs. Not Installed Voices: In the current beta design, voices not installed on the device are mixed together with installed voices and simply grayed out. The Team is considering an alternative approach where not installed voices are placed in a separate section. They would like to know if users find this separation helpful or if they prefer having them all in the same list as they are now.
    • Discover Mode Behavior: When users click the "Discover" button, it currently appends a list of voices available for trial to the bottom of their existing list. The Team is considering an alternative design where the Discover mode temporarily replaces the entire list with new voices for easier browsing. They would like users' thoughts on whether the current approach or the alternative would make it easier to discover new voices.
  • 2.1.2b2 is a beta version and is offered temporarily through Google Drive links posted by the Team's announcement on the Dreamtonics Users Forum. The Team asks users to please submit bug reports through their support form, asking users to please specify version "2.1.2b2" in their tickets. While they welcome feedback on the forum, the Team may not be able to address the replies promptly, also finding it difficult to request necessary details (e.g. project files) for bug reproduction in a public forum, hence why they kindly request users to report issues via the support ticket system.

Behavior Changes:

  • When importing a version 1 project, instead of resetting the tension parameter, map the values to their near-equivalents in version 2.
  • Display a warning message when the plugin loads with an externally saved project file that can't be found.
  • When pasting a group in the arrangement, prevent the pasted group from overlapping with existing groups by shifting it to the right until a blank space is found.

Feature Enhancements:

  • Redesigned the voice selector menu: now with voice icons, tags, audio preview and trial/installation buttons integrated.
  • Initialize the app's UI language with the system language for a fresh installation on macOS.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed audio artifacts when the tension parameter is close to maximum.
  • Fixed audio artifacts when the strength of a plosive/affricate is raised from 0 to a positive value in the phoneme timing panel.

Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro 2.2.0b1 Beta Update - November 25, 2025 (beta build)[26]

The Dreamtonics Team is excited to share the beta for the upcoming version 2.2.0 to Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, "one of the most significant updates to the software since the launch of version 2." Version 2.2.0b1 focuses on providing users with easy-to-use tools for creating complex and nuanced vocal arrangements, including harmonies, doubling, and layered vocal textures.

  • Doubling in Voice Panel

    Doubling in Voice Panel

Voice Doubling: The new Doubling section within the Voice panel allows for the creation of up to 16 layers from a single voice. This functionality streamlines the process of achieving a choir-like effect, previously requiring manual duplication and retake application. The "Spacing" parameter provides precise control over stereo separation between doubled voices, saving the need to manually pan each track to achieve a sense of spatial presence.
  • Effects Panel

    Effects Panel

Effects Panel: Synthesizer V Studio Pro 2.2.0 introduces an integrated Effects panel featuring a streamlined vocal effect chain. This chain follows a standard order of EQ, compression, and reverb, providing basic mixing capabilities directly within the software. The Effects Panel is primarily intended for previewing vocal sounds and applying quick, preset-based effects – particularly useful in pre-production stages or for users who do not require a full DAW environment.
  • Room Sound in Effects Panel

    Room Sound in Effects Panel

Room Sound Simulation: Integrated within the Effects Panel, the Room Sound simulator offers a nuanced approach to panning and spatial positioning. Reflection of sound waves by the walls are modeled to create a natural stereo delay effect, enhancing the reverb characteristics and adding a sense of space to vocal performances. This feature is particularly well-suited for creating realistic multi-part choirs and achieving a warm, spacious texture.
  • Scale Mode in Piano Roll

    Scale Mode in Piano Roll

Musical Scales: The piano roll now supports musical scale visualization. Users can set the root note and pattern via the tool bar, toggling Scale Mode to highlight notes within the selected scale on the keys and background. This feature provides a visual aid for composing and arranging within a specific harmonic context.
    Scale in Voice Panel

    Scale in Voice Panel

Musical scale settings can be applied to individual groups. To apply the same settings to multiple groups, simply select all desired groups and adjust the Scale settings within the Voice panel.
  • Import MusicXML

    Import MusicXML

MusicXML Support: Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro now supports importing MusicXML files, allowing users to easily transfer existing musical arrangements into our editor. This functionality includes support for lyric data and conversion into Synthesizer V's notation for slurs and syllable continuation.
  • Render Cache within Settings

    Render Cache within Settings

Render Cache: Version 2.2.0 introduces a Render Cache to significantly improve project loading times and reduce memory usage. This system stores synthesized phoneme, pitch, and audio data on disk, eliminating the need to re-render these elements upon reopening a project. To ensure optimal performance, the cache is automatically managed. Users can monitor the current cache size within the Rendering settings.
Note: Projects must be saved before closing to validate the cached data.
  • Improved Rendering Progress Display

    Improved Rendering Progress Display

Improved Rendering Progress Display: The rendering progress is now displayed in the Arrangement view and along the timeline, providing clear feedback on the status of each group. This allows users to easily monitor progress and identify sections ready for playback.
  • Reporting issues: The Team asks users to please submit bug reports through their support form, asking users to please specify version "2.2.0b1" in their tickets. While they welcome feedback on the forum, the Team may not be able to address the replies promptly, also finding it difficult to request necessary details (e.g. project files) for bug reproduction in a public forum, hence why they kindly request users to report issues via the support ticket system.

New Features:

  • Added voice doubling: specify the number of voices and spacing between voices in the Voice panel under "Doubling".
  • Added Effects panel and an effect chain (spatialization, equalization, compression, reverberation) to each track.
  • Added musical scale settings to note groups:
    • Turn on scale visualization in the piano roll to see key and background highlighting based on the selected musical scale.
    • Alternatively, set the scale in the Voice panel for all selected groups.
  • Added project import support for MusicXML formats (.mxl, .xml, .musicxml).
  • Added render cache for reducing the memory footprint and avoiding re-renders when opening a saved project.
    • Note: projects need to be re-saved to enable caching.
  • Added options to Render panel for bypassing tracks' gain/pan and effects during bouncing.

Behavior Changes:

  • Rearranged file menu options related to importing projects and instrumentals.

Feature Enhancements:

  • Replaced the existing rendering progress visualization in the piano roll with a more info-rich display in the time axis and arrangement.
  • Increased the hit area for dragging and resizing operations on notes, groups and phoneme boundaries.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed crashes when changing the tempo when using the ARA plugin in certain DAWs.
  • Fixed the plugin not reporting changes to the DAW when the externally saved project's path has changed.
  • Fixed some rare cases of logging out despite an offline license being enabled under an intermittent internet connection.
  • Fixed changes to the settings not being saved when multiple instances of Synthesizer V Studio (e.g. both plugins and the standalone) are running at the same time.
  • Fixed the irregular order of note focus when shifting through selected notes with space/tab key while the lyrics editor is open.
  • Fixed the value display overlapping with the textbox when editing the value of a slider.

Releases[]

Full Versions[]

  • Full versions are the paid versions of the voice databases (with the possible exception of Mai, Mo Xu, and Liam; all Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro users are able to freely download one of these three after purchasing a permanent license for the software).

AI-trained Standard Releases[]

  • These are formerly Synthesizer V Studio-exclusive Standard voice databases that have received new specialized Synthesizer V 2 AI training, similar to the concept of Synthesizer V Plus voice databases, that were made available to those who have purchased the full version of the Synthesizer V Studio 1 editions. These upgrades allow the former Standard concatenative databases to remain compatible with the new engine; however, unlike full native Synthesizer V 2 AI databases, the AI-trained Standard voice databases do not have access to the Vocal Mode function and do not support Korean Cross-lingual Singing Synthesis or any other Synthesizer V Studio 2-exclusive features, rendering the databases similar to those of first-generation Synthesizer V AI vocals imported into the new engine. Users are able to download these upgrades upon registration of their preceding Synthesizer V Studio Standard versions' activation codes at My Dreamtonics.

Trial Versions[]

  • Trial versions are time-limited versions of the voice databases that are available on Synthesizer V Studio 2.
  • They can be downloaded through the editor and used for up to 7 days; once the trial period expires, they can no longer be used unless their licenses are purchased.
  • Projects using Trial versions cannot be rendered for export.

Note: Not every voice database has a Trial version.

Trial Versions of Synthesizer V Studio 1 Releases[]

Note: Not every SVS1 voice database has a Trial version, even if it once had a Lite version or an FLT for the SVS1 editor.

Starter Packs[]

  • Full versions that can be acquired together with the Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro editor at a discount.
  • Bushiroad Studio Pro Starters, Hifumi Starter Packs, and Internet Co. Starter Packs consist of the voice databases themselves bundled with the SVS2 Pro editor; they exist as both physical packages and digital downloads.
  • Dreamtonics Bundles and Taobao Sets consist of the voice databases themselves bundled with the SVS2 Pro editor in the same digital download; they do not exist as physical bundles.
  • AH-Software starters (marked with * below) are just standalone voice databases that can be downloaded from the AHS Store after redeeming the coupon enclosed within the (physical-only) Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro Starter Pack. Only one of them can be downloaded per Starter Pack coupon.

Note: Not every voice database has a Starter Pack.

Starter Packs of Synthesizer V Studio 1 Releases[]

  • Full versions of both AI-trained Standard voice databases and Synthesizer V AI voice databases (ported from the previous version of Synthesizer V Studio) that can be acquired together with the Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro editor at a discount.

Note: Not every SVS1 voice database has an SVS2 Starter Pack, even if it once had a Starter Pack with the SVS1 editor.
