History[]

Tsuina-chan resulted from a member of the "Hinomoto Oniko Project," Saki Ohenri, wanting to create a "rival" character to Oniko - as Oniko is a ogre, Tsuina-chan was conceptualized as a ogre hunter. Tsuina-chan made her official online debut on Oohenri's pixiv on February 3, 2011 (the initial upload has since been deleted, however). Her character is inspired from the "Tsuina" Event, which is an annual ceremony performed on December 30 each year. It is a ceremony designed to exorcise ogres/bad spirits, which is the basis of Tsuina's character. Elements of the ceremony (instruments, wooden masks, traditional clothing) are all part of Tsuna's character design. Since then, she had a voice drama series, "Tsuina, the Ogre Hunter", since August 2016. Tsuina-chan later had a crowdfunding campaign to become a VOICEROID in February 2019,[1] and she successfully became a VOICEROID2 product in November that year.

2020[]

On September 14, 2020, Tsuina-chan launched a contest for fans to design what would be an outfit for her if she were to become a singing synthesizer.[2] The contest is set to last until November 14. Less than a month later, on October 5, Tsuina-chan's official twitter account confirmed that she would be starting a crowdfunding campaign for a singing synthesizer later in winter.[3] On October 30, Synthesizer V AI was announced and it was later revealed that Tsuina-chan would begin a crowdfunding campaign for Synthesizer V Studio Standard and Synthesizer V AI banks later that year.[4][5] The campaign began on December 4 and reached its initial goal of 5,000,000 yen in one day.[6][7]

On December 6, the results of the design contest were revealed with the winning design concept illustrated by Twitter user ゆゆのすけ (@51714_yuriyuri).[8] Runner ups were also announced for various awards including the: AHS Excellence Award[9], Mai Kadowaki Excellence Award[10], Feeling of Dynamism Award[11], Lovely Poster Award[12], Kouhaku Maruko Kobayashi Award[13], Tsuina-chan Meme Material Contest Award[14], and the Koufudaiji Temple Award[15].

By December 26, the crowdfunding campaign exceeded its 10,000,000 yen stretch goal for development of a Synthesizer V AI voice database for Tsuina-chan. Additional stretch goals were added for each increment of 1,000,000 yen for the creation of new 3D models and additional voice recordings.[16] She was expected to release toward the end of 2021.[17]

2021[]

On April 22, 2021, in response to a fan's question regarding Lite versions, Tsuina-chan's Twitter replied that it was a possibility.[18] On May 30, the initial sketch for Tsuina-chan's Synthesizer V design was released.[19] A livestream for Tsuina-chan was confirmed to be launching on November 26.[20]

On November 4, Tsuina-chan's website was updated and revealed her Synthesizer V design, which was noted as her "Diva Costume".[21] Two additional full body illustrations were presented on Twitter, which were noted to be her Standard and AI designs respectively. Pre-orders launched on the same day and her release date was confirmed to be November 26.[22][23] According to her Synthesizer V character page on AH-Software's website, Lite versions were expected at a later date.[24] On November 12, a list of all the sound samples that were packaged in her Synthesizer V libraries were revealed.[25]

On November 19, both lite versions of the Standard and AI voice databases were made available.[26] On November 20, some users confirmed they received their boxes early.[27] Tsuina-chan was released on November 26 as intended.
