Tsurumaki Maki (弦巻マキ) is a Japanese and English vocal developed and distributed by AH-Software Co. Ltd., and was released as Standard and AI voice databases for Synthesizer V Studio in June 2021. She is also capable of speaking in both languages through CeVIO AI,[1] but originally debuted as a Japanese-only VOICEROID+ speech voicebank in November 2010, and later received an update for VOICEROID+ EX in October 2014.
Her voice provider is Manami Tanaka, a Japanese voice actress.[2] During her VOICEROID period, she was voiced by Tomoe Tamiyasu.[3]
Concept[]
Maki's character first appeared as one of the mascot characters of Jam Band (jamバンド). This is a special edition of "Music Maker Producer Edition" which is a DAW released by AH-Software. Maki plays the guitar in her band with the other mascot characters.
She lives alone with her father because her mother died very young. She wants to buy a dachshund. Her father was a band musician; when Maki was born, he retired from music and opened his cafeteria named "Maki", where his food specialty is seasoned eggs.[4]

Etymology[]
In kana, Maki's name is rendered as "ツルマキ マキ".[5]
Appearance[]
Maki is a young female with blonde hair and green eyes. For her Synthesizer V Japanese design, she dons a white dress shirt with a black and red bow on her chest and a cropped black jacket with a red plaid patterned skirt. She wears black fringe-tipped leggings with black knee-length boots and black fingerless gloves. Her hair has been tied into two braids on her left side with two beaded strands extending from the back. A long transparent ribbon extends from her waist with white polka dots down to her knees.
For her Synthesizer V English design, she sports a red and white sleeveless top adorned with golden accents and matching epaulets on her shoulders with a skirt hanging from her left hip and a pair of black short shorts. She wears mismatching black star-cut leggings with red platform sneakers and black finger-less gloves. She has a red band with a golden star on her right thigh. Her hair has been tied into braids on her left side with a sheer transparent ribbon on the back of her head. A long red and white half skirt extends from her waist while a white and red ribbon is attached at the top.

Marketing[]
A contest to design a new outfit for Maki was held from March 26 to April 30, 2020. The contest winners were revealed on May 15 [8] with one grand prize winner, two runner-ups, six honorable mentions, and three select choices from Umetani Atarō (her original VOICEROID illustrator), LESS Kitayama, and Tomohide Ogata. Every winning design, including the honorable mentions, would be made into official merchandise for Maki.[9]
On May 13, 2021, Maki was announced to be receiving two new 3D models by tumidango for MikuMikuDance (MMD), one of her original Jam Band design and one for her Japanese Synthesizer V design.[10]. Both models were originally available with the purchase of either Maki's CeVIO AI Talk Voice or her Synthesizer V voice databases respectively with a public release planned at a later date.[11] Both models and additional character illustrations were made available for free download on June 7.[12]
Maki was a featured performer for the VIRTUAL MUSIC JAM -CeVIO PARTY- virtual concert, which used her Synthesizer V Studio voice databases.[13]
Commercials for Maki's CeVIO AI and Synthesizer V libraries were presented in December.[14] Maki was also among one of the Synthesizer V vocals that could be trialed at certain Japanese music retail stores where customers can use the software that was set up with the stores' PCs.[15]
On December 23, Maki Japanese and English were used in the official demo showcasing the Cross-lingual Singing Synthesis feature, which was introduced in Synthesizer V Studio version 1.5.0. This marked her first appearance in an official engine demonstration hosted by Dreamtonics.[16]
On June 24, 2022, Dreamtonics Co., Ltd. announced its first creation contest in collaboration with AH-Software, Animen, AUDIOLOGIE Co., Ltd., and Eclipsed Sounds, LLC with three competition areas: originals, covers, and cross-lingual synthesis. Creators were encouraged to submit their work regardless of language restrictions. Prizes included cash distribution from bilibili, digital copies of certain Synthesizer V voice databases, and the physical boxed copy of ANRI. Maki was listed as one of the eligible vocals for this contest.[17]
On June 30, it was announced that Maki would be receiving her first official album, titled "JAMping High", on July 21 and consists of fourteen tracks.[18][19]
