“
The stars in the sky are asleep
Leaving the wind to run on the ground
It runs to the woods to play with the leaves
The shade rustles and laughs as it moves through
He slips to the river and calls the spring to play
It takes the spring with it and leaps down from the rocky moss
A leaf leaves the branch
Carrying the wind's song far away
A drop of spring water pops out of the stream
And runs down the hill with the wind's song
”
—Introduction prior to debut; shared with Lin Lai[1][2]
Yun Quan (Simplified Chinese: 韵泉; Traditional Chinese: 韻泉) is a Mandarin Chinese vocal developed and distributed by Dreamtonics Co., Ltd., and released as an AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio in June 2023.
Her voice provider has not been revealed.
Concept[]
Like previous Dreamtonics vocals before her, Yun Quan was intended to be treated as an official voice database or an indispensable "reference-level" type of singing voice, representing Dreamtonics's brand quality.
Yun Quan was designed as one of Dreamtonics's featured vocalists created with the impression of a child.
Etymology[]
"Yun" (韵; Yùn) means "sweet music" or "melodious tune", while also meaning "rhyme". "Quan" (泉; Quán) means "springwater" or refers to the "mouth of a spring". Combined with Lin Lai, the names come from the Chinese idiom "Lín Lài Quán Yùn" (林籁泉韵), which refers to the natural sound of the wind blowing in the woods and the spring lapping against the rocks, expressing the naturalness and beauty of the sound, possibly inferring the idea of giving the singers the impression and expectation of naturalness and innocence.[3]
Yun Quan's name is rendered in kana as "ユン・チュアン".
Appearance[]
Like previous Dreamtonics vocals, rather than having an official human-like avatar, Yun Quan is represented by an abstract symbol, the letters "Y" and "Q", which are drawn from the first letters per Chinese character of her name in romanization. The letters are baby pink with hints of magenta. The Y is rectangular-shaped. The Q is square-shaped with a straight and rectangular tail. The Q is shorter than the Y. Characterization is left to the song producers themselves rather than the product, so Yun Quan is open to any form of visual interpretation, allowing the producer to decide what they would like her to look like.

Additional Information[]
Marketing[]
Like previous Dreamtonics vocals, Yun Quan was treated as an official or standard vocal for the engine, where she could potentially be found in demonstrations of Synthesizer V Studio and its AI capabilities. This also meant that she would be among the first vocals to be equipped with the latest engine updates. Along with Lin Lai, Yun Quan was one of Dreamtonics's first child vocalists. As a first for the Dreamtonics vocals, they were available for purchase individually or as a dual back (exclusive to the Dreamtonics Taobao shop).[4]
On August 2, 2023, Dreamtonics announced that Yun Quan had her own artist association profile on NetEase Music. Creators can use the profile to add to their published songs, providing a more unified retrieval method and a higher exposure rate for the works. Dreamtonics would provide assistance services to creators at no charge and would not obtain any income belonging to the artist when associating their works with the singer profiles. Based on NetEase Music's policies, creators needed to provide relevant proof of purchase to NetEase Music's customer service in order to associate a virtual singer with their works, thus, screenshots of receipts would need to be prepared in advance. NetEase Music's customer service would then confirm the request and forward it to Dreamtonics, who would approve the requests within five business days of receiving them.[5]
Reputation[]
Upon debut, fans thought that Yun Quan and Lin Lai sounded very cute. Fans from the West expressed concerns about bad actors using the child vocals for inappropriate content.
As a vocalist without an official character, this allowed producers and fans to create their own for Yun Quan, resulting in a variety of designs.- Lin Lai and Yun Quan made their debut on June 1 which is also known as Children's Day.
- The first song featuring Yun Quan to reach one million views was a Genshin Impact parody cover of "Bù Wèn ciaga (Bù Wèn Biélí)" by Che Ling Mao, Mala Tu Tou-P, and Ze You io on July 1, 2023.[6]
- One of the first child voice libraries for Synthesizer V.
- One of the first commercialized Mandarin Chinese child voice libraries overall.
